Growing up in South Africa, ‘Cold Fact’ by Rodriguez was the de facto soundtrack for road trips to Cape Town and nights down a bottle of Black Label. I didn’t really give the album a second thought; it was just part of the fabric before I hijacked the system for some Wu Tang Clan action.

After watching ‘Searching For Sugar Man’ last night, a documentary about the elusive Rodriguez, his work has taken on a whole new resonance. The man is a genius – but was very nearly sideswiped by the world.
