How can I sell my music online?

See Digital Music Sales

This is one of the questions I get asked very often by South African musicians.

In 2002 I was involved with creating the SAmp3. com portal for promoting South African music through free downloads. However there was no real way, at the time, to monetize these free give-aways.

In August 2006, I became a partner in starting Rhythm Online to sell MP3s to the world. This online store is now known as Rhythm Music Store (and also MyMusiek) and if you are a talented musician, published or unpublished, fill in the online electronic distribution agreement to have your tunes listed on Rhythm Online Music Store.

Would you like the world to hear and buy your music?

SAmp3. com can help you promote your music through channel24 and sell your MP3s to the world on the RhythmMusicStore.com.

And the best part is, there is no cost to you!

Music Sales:

If you wish to sell your music on RhythmMusicStore.com you will need to complete the easy online agreement.

All the information you need can be found there.

Currently Rhythm Music Store is only able to accommodate artists and labels with bank accounts in South Africa.

For selling MP3s on Rhythm Music Store we require a physical audio CD or CD-R for  for the following reasons:

  • Quality Control
  • Naming Convention
  • Creation of 30 second samples

Single songs are also fine (we list it as a album with only one track, and with its own artwork and blurb), but we still require the music to be supplied on an audio CD, please.

Wrestlerish launches The Rude Mechanical – Album information and launch tour dates

Wrestlerish – The Rude Mechanical
Wrestlerish – The Rude Mechanical

WRESTLERISH

THE RUDE MECHANICAL

Out March 2010

Wrestlerish’s much-anticipated debut album, The Rude Mechanical, will be released by Rhythm Records in March 2010.

Wrestlerish is the brain child of songwriters Werner Olckers (Vocals and guitar) and Jacques Du Plessis (Keys and vocals) and is completed by David Grevler (Bass) and Gavin Flaks (Drums). After a whirlwind year of touring and performing in 2009, the band is now set to release their debut album “The Rude Mechanical” in March 2010 through Rhythm Records.

Wrestlerish has quickly become the band that seems to have everyone talking. After making a critically-acclaimed festival debut at Splashy Fen last year, the band went on to play Oppikoppi: Smoorverlief, where their performance was selected by 5FM to be part of the Live@5 Oppikoppi campaign. They also played Oppiaarde, Rocking the Daisies, Old Mutual Encounters and Magic in the Music with MNET.

The band plans to follow up their debut single, “Bad News” (which already went to # 1 on the TuksFM charts and is playlisted on several campus radio stations, with the video enjoying heavy rotation on music channel MK) with two more music videos, confirmed performances with international acts Johnny Foreigner (UK) and Balthazar (Belgium) and a full national tour during March and April to promote the album.

Says Olckers, who was previously in SHU with Peach van Pletzen (Yesterday’s Pupil) and Barend Pieterse (Kidofdoom) “I mostly write about what is happening in my life… friends, family, love. I don’t have a set formula when I write. Sometimes it is the tune that gives shape to the entire song, sometimes it is only a few words…”

Wrestlerish captivates not only through their exquisite, simultaneous musical richness and simplicity, but Werner Olckers’s octave-shifting voice also has that rarest of qualities – conveying meaning and feeling with every word he sings.

“When I listen to Wrestlerish I think of driving in the passenger seat and losing out under street lights and I think of

bicycles and glitter and I think of girls and the way hearts used to break so well in the old days.

A quarter-life crisis is a ridiculous thing to have, but he’s making the soundtrack to mine.”

Wrestlerish get signed to Rhythm Records

From Musical Mover

“When I listen to Wrestlerish I think of driving in the passenger seat and losing out under streetlights and I think of bicycles and glitter and I think of girls and the way hearts used to break so well in the old days. A quarterlife crisis is a ridiculous thing to have, but he’s making the soundtrack to mine.” – Hunter Kennedy

Wrestlerish are a four piece that “blend rock, country and folk like these genres should have always been one…”

Rhythm Records have just signed the band and their debut will be released in March 2010. For a sneak preview of their brilliance, download their first single “Bad News” for free at here. As I said earlier this year they are a band that is going to go far. Mark my words.

yours in musical madness

Twintig jaar later – en Valiant rock steeds volstoom in 2010

Valiant Swart

Your browser may not support display of this image.

AFRIKAANS

En so is Dans Republic gebore.

Your browser may not support display of this image.

NUWE ALBUM

Ecclectic, unpredictable and supremely musically innovative, Foto Na Dans is back in 2010 with a massive hit collaboration, a new album and a nation-wide tour later in the year.

AFRIKAANS

Dans Republic, Foto Na Dans’s collaboration with Flash Republic, started out like many other brilliant projects – in a bar. The guys from Foto Na Dans met Flash Republic’s Tamara Dey while she was busy promoting Flash Republic’s album launch in a Jo’burg drinking spot. Jagermeister  flowed and a firm friendship was forged.

A while later in 2009, at the SAMA Awards, Victor Edward from music channel MK asked the guys from Flash Republic to consider a collaboration with a rock band. They thought it a great idea and suggested Foto Na Dans. And so Dans Republic was born.

Dans Republic ‘s single, Afrikaans, has since been play listed on national radio station 5FM, as well as a number of regional and campus radio stations, where it has been fantastically received by listeners. The music video for Afrikaans remained at the #1 spot on music channel MK’s charts for three weeks, and Foto Na Dans and Flash Republic will perform Afrikaans live for the first time at the MK Awards ceremony in February 2010.

NEW ALBUM

Foto Na Dans will start recording their next album in February. The album will be released in May, with a nationwide tour to follow in August. Foto Na Dans fans can look out for regular updates about the recording process and the album in the media and on the band’s facebook and myspace pages.
