Forty Days

“I’m gonna give you Forty Days … to get back”

Cliff Richard’s recording of ‘Forty Days’ in 1961, which was a cover of Chuck Berry’s ‘Thirty Days’ from 1955, became an anthem in South Africa among the army guys, and was also adopted by many students as well.

Music Collector extraordinaire Tertius Louw has created a list of versions of Forty Days covered by South African artists.

Bob Dylan Tribute show

The band, The Bluestreet Players, consists of Mick Laden from East London on guitar, vocals and harmonica, in the role of Bob Dylan, and David Bickers from Manchester UK, playing accompanying electric lead guitar. Mick and Dave both performed professionally in the UK for many years.

Classic Dylan hits include: Blowin in The Wind, All Along The Watchtower, A Hard Rain is Gonna Fall, Like a Rolling Stone, Masters of War, The Times They Are a Changing, Forever Young, and Make You Feel My Love, plus others.

For the year of 2010 South Africans watched clips dominated by music and politics on YouTube, with Afrikaans trailer-trash rap group Die Antwoord stealing the show as one of the most watched for the year.

Die Antwoord’s singles ‘Enter the Ninja‘ racked up a massive 8,6-million views, while ‘Zef Side‘ received 5,2-million views.

Other local videos that drew significant interest included ‘6 Second Poison’ by Locnville (667,170) , ‘Show Dem – Make the Circle Bigger (223,944) and Jack Parow’s ‘Dans, Dans, Dans’ featuring Francois van Coke  (419,100). – Nur Bremmen
